Breast surgery can resolve a vast array of issues for women. The need for breast surgery varies. It may stem from a desire to improve the appearance of the body, reduce back pain, or address breast cancer issues.

With more than 25 years of experience with various types of breast surgeries, Dr. Mucci is one of the most sought-after plastic surgeons in southeast Michigan both for his expertise and caring, attentive manner. He focuses on providing patients with the look they desire, while also offering his guidance regarding ideal solutions for each patient.

Whether you want your breasts to be smaller, larger, or simply perkier, you can rely on Dr. Mucci to create the results you hope to achieve.

Breast Augmentation/Enlargement

Breast enlargement remains one of the most common types of cosmetic surgeries today, and it has come a long way in the past few decades. The breasts look and feel more natural, and the implant technology is safer today than it was in the past.

The implants are typically made of one of two materials: silicone or a saline (salt water) solution. Both have their pros and cons, including how much they cost and how long they last. However, both options are highly effective in creating the contoured shape patients are looking for.

During a breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Mucci typically makes the incision at the fold of the breast, which minimizes the appearance of scars. The implants are then placed above or below the chest wall muscle.

Dr. Mucci uses his skilled techniques in a manner that makes the breasts more proportional, all while minimizing patients’ recovery time. Within about six weeks after breast enlargement, Dr. Mucci’s patients tend to feel renewed, and their enhanced sense of confidence is clear.

Breast Lifts (Mastopexy)

Sometimes a lift is all you need to give your confidence a boost. With a breast lift (mastopexy), the breast volume remains unchanged, but we tighten the skin surrounding the breast. The goal is to create a more youthful, perkier, lifted appearance of the breast.

Breast lift procedures can be completed in a number of ways, including the common “donut mastopexy.”  In a donut mastopexy, a circular incision is placed around the nipple in order to minimally change its position.

Another is an “anchor mastopexy,” where in addition to that incision, another is made vertically from under the nipple to the bottom of the breast and a third is placed in a U-shape in the breast fold. The incisions therefore resemble an anchor on the lower half of each breast.

Permanent scarring is typically minimal, but there are other types of cosmetic procedures that can further reduce the appearance of these scars in the future if you wish. Ask Dr. Mucci about scar treatment options.

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery can relieve a number of troubling conditions.

Breasts that are not proportionate, that are excessively heavy, or that are drooping can cause pain in the upper back, chest, shoulders, and rib cage, as well as shoulder grooving. They may also cause rashes under the breast. For these reasons, breast reduction procedures may be partially or fully covered by some insurance plans. Contact your insurance company to determine if this is true for you and to ask how much of the procedure is covered.

The procedure involves anchor-shaped incisions on the lower half of each breast. After the incisions are made, some of the breast tissue is removed. During the breast reduction surgery, Dr. Mucci can improve the overall appearance of the breasts by lifting them and making them more proportional.

Post-Mastectomy Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction surgery can help breast cancer patients feel like themselves again after a mastectomy. During this procedure, the breast implant is surrounded with processed skin, and advancements in this procedure have allowed for a faster and easier recovery period. Insurance companies may pay for this procedure as well, so contact your insurance provider to learn more.
