Common Questions People Have About
Breast Augmentation
Healthy adults who wish to increase breast size, improve shape, or restore symmetry are ideal candidates. The goal is a natural, proportionate appearance.
Breast implants — either silicone or saline — are placed under the breast tissue or chest muscle. Some patients may opt for fat transfer breast augmentation to use their own body fat for natural volume enhancement.
If you have significant sagging, a breast lift (mastopexy) may be recommended in addition to augmentation.
Most patients wait until their body has fully recovered from pregnancy and breastfeeding, often 3–6 months. Your consultation will determine the best timing. Contact our office for personalized guidance.
Initial recovery usually takes about 1 week. Swelling and subtle changes may persist for several weeks, with final results visible in 2–3 months.
Most patients are advised to avoid sexual activity for 2–3 weeks to allow incisions to heal and prevent strain on the chest.
Many patients can breastfeed after surgery, but this depends on incision type and implant placement. Discuss your plans during consultation.
How soon after breastfeeding can I get breast implants?
Dr. Mucci will review your medical history, examine your anatomy, discuss implant options, explain the procedure, and answer all questions to create a personalized plan.
Pregnancy may slightly change breast size and shape. Some patients may need a revision or breast lift to maintain ideal results.

General Safety & Comfort
- Do not drive, operate machinery, or make important decisions for 24 hours after surgery or while taking pain medication.
- Drink plenty of fluids for the first 48 hours and maintain a normal diet. Additional protein can support healing.
- Take all medications exactly as prescribed.
- Avoid exercise or strenuous activity until cleared by Dr. Mucci. For the first two weeks, do not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk and limit arm movements.
- Wear loose-fitting clothes that zip or button in the front; avoid pulling garments over your head.
- Keep your surgical garment on at all times, except when showering. You may shower the next morning after surgery.
- Leave any small tapes or Steri-Strips over the incisions in place until your follow-up appointment.
- Apply a Ziploc bag of crushed ice to the top of your breasts for 48–72 hours, using 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off while awake to reduce swelling and discomfort.
- If you have a drain, remove it according to Dr. Mucci’s instructions. Cover the opening with gauze. Some drainage is normal for 24–48 hours.
- Change gauze as needed and leave Steri-Strips in place. Do not tape over open wounds; cover with dry gauze if necessary.
