Post Operative Instructions For Male Chest Reduction

These post-operative instructions are intended as general guidelines to support your recovery. Your individual care plan may differ based on your specific procedure and medical needs, and Dr. Mucci or his team may provide personalized instructions to ensure the best results and safety.

  1. If you have a drain, remove it the day after surgery as instructed by Dr. Mucci. Remove the tape, pull out the tubing, and cover the opening with gauze. Some drainage over 24–48 hours is normal—change the gauze as needed. Avoid submerging your body in water until the wound closes.
  2. Keep the white Steri-Strips on your incisions—they will start to lift on their own. If they haven’t fallen off by two weeks, you may remove them in the shower and pat dry. Apply the new tape provided, which can stay on 5–7 days and be worn in the shower. The tape can replace scar creams as long as your skin tolerates it, usually for a few months.
  3. Small wounds, especially at incision junctions, are normal. Do not tape over them. Cover with dry gauze and change as needed. Some blood, fluid, or yellow drainage is normal. Wounds may enlarge slightly before healing.
  4. Wear your support garment 24/7 for 6 weeks, except when bathing.
